The Sorensen SG Series (hereafter SG Series) represents the next generation of high power programmable DC power supplies. The SG Series is designed for exceptional load transient response, low noise and the highest power density in the industry. With a full 15 kW available down to 20VDC output in a 3U package the SG Series leads the industry in power density. The power density is enhanced by a stylish front air intake allowing supplies to be stacked without any required clearance between units.

At the heart of the SG series is a 5 kW power module. Depending on the output voltage, one to six modules can be configured in a single chassis to deliver 5 kW to 30 kW of power. Combinations of these chassis can then be easily paralleled to achieve power levels up to 150 kW. Paralleled units operate like one single supply providing total system current. Available in two control versions, the SGA has basic analog controls, while the SGI provides intelligent control features.

SGI: Advanced Intelligent Control 
(Sorensen General purpose Intelligent) The SGI combines onboard intelligent controls with the outstanding power electronics common to all SG family supplies. The SGe is an economical, FET based, high switching speed, programmable, dc power supply alternative to SCR and IGBT based dc supplies.

Most topologies use either a MosFET or IGBT approach within their power stage to execute their power conversion topology. At the same time end users value low output ripple and noise in conjunction with achieving high slew rates. Both IGBT and SCR based designs typically run at much lower switching speeds requiring a larger LC output filter design for similar performance or require degrading ripple and noise performance in order to maintain competitive power densities. The filter design in this case may be balanced to trade off performance of response time with output ripple and noise and densities.

In contrast, our SGe line leverages the benefits of using high switching speed Mosfets requiring a much smaller output stage LC filter in order to provide competitive output ripple and noise performance and response time without compromising power densities. The ASD series with its 3U, 30kW water-cooled packaging provides the highest power density available. The ASD power supply is designed for industry leading load transient response with outstanding output ripple and noise. The water-cooling packaging allows for use in environments that normally exclude air-cooled power supplies.

The ASD power supply series advanced digital architecture, with realtime digital control and Graphical User Interface (GUI), enables many features to better control and monitor your process or application. Ametek Compliance Test System

The CTS Series is a complete, turn-key compliance test system for EN IEC 1000-3-2 (Harmonics) Including A14, EN IEC 1000-3-3 (Flicker) and various EN IEC 1000-4 AC immunity tests. Consisting of an AC power source, a power analysis conditioning system (PACS) and a PC based data acquisition system, the CTS provides a complete turn-key solution for IEC testing. The Windows™ based CTS software performs the IEC tests and generates detailed test reports. Comprehensive data files are stored on disk to allow post test analysis.

The CTS system implements various IEC standards including the new Amendment 14 and provides a software only upgrade path for future standard changes.

A European style AC outlet is provided on the front panel or rear panel for easy connection of single phase loads. Three phase loads are connected using rear terminal blocks.

EN 61000-3-2 Harmonics 
Full compliance testing for current harmonics emissions of class A, B, C and D products is supported. Support for both the 1998 and 2001 version (Amendment 14) of the Harmonics standard is built-in for full compliance with both harmonics standards.

EN 61000-3-3 Flicker 
Flicker PST & PLT results are displayed in realtime during the entire test. No need to wait until the entire test is completed to know if the EUT passed or failed. Both programmable and lumped reference impedance methods are available for flicker testing.

EN 61000-4-11 Voltage Dips - ED2.0
Pre-compliance Voltage Dips and Interruptions are available on most CTS systems. For full compliance solutions, the Electronic Output

Testing to the EN 61000-4-13 Interharmonics standard is supported on all iX Series based CTS systems by adding the -413 option.

Additional immunity test standards are supported on all iX based CTS Systems.
Configurations The CTS system is available in both single phase and three phase configurations. Single phase configurations range in power from 1250 VA to 5000 VA.

Three phase configurations offer 15 k VA or 18.5 A per phase at 230 V. Single phase 5001iX-CTS systems can be upgraded to three phase systems if needed.

Measurement only CTS system versions (100- CTS and 300-CTS) can be added to an existing California Instruments power source.

AC Power Source
Available in a choice of power levels ranging from 1250 VA to > 45,000 VA, the CTS Systems covers the complete range of single and three phase products that require testing to conform with existing and pending IEC standards. All iX Series AC sources meet IEC requirements for low voltage distortion and offer arbitrary waveform generation, precision measurements, and waveform analysis capabilities. Actual
AC Source voltage distortion is measured in real-time during the harmonics test and any distortion that could affect the test results is clearly indicated.

All iX Series based CTS systems support full compliance testing for several IEC 61000-4 AC immunity standards as well (certain options may be required, see ordering information for details).

Direct PC Data Acquisition
A high-speed digital signal processor based data acquisition system is used to implement the required IEC compliance measurement system. Direct access to the PC bus ensures a much higher data throughput capability than typically found in single box IEC test systems that use either the IEEE-488 instrumentation, USB, LXI or RS-232 bus to communicate between the analysis instrument and the PC.

This high-speed acquisition system architecture stores raw data to the hard drive and offers several features. It not only possesses the ability to support future versions of test standards by merely installing new PC software but it also greatly reduces the risk of product obscolescence as test standards evolve. Furthermore, since the data is streamed to hard disk in real-time, a complete data record is created each time which may be used for audit purposes, data replay and further analysis or to prove compliance to all the measurement requirements specified in the test standard.

A special signal conditioning and isolation unit is used to provide quick and easy connection between the AC source output and the Equipment Under Test. This unit provides the required isolation, signal conditioning and anti-alias filtering for the measurement system. The equipment under test can be plugged in the front panel mounted European style outlet (single phase systems only), or wired to a rear panel mounted terminal block.

Harmonics Analyzer
A key part of the CTS system is the IEC compliant power analyzer which provides detailed information on both voltage and current. Measurements of both harmonics and interharmonics are made in real-time with no measurement gaps to fully conform to the latest revision of the IEC 61000-4-7 test standard. AC source voltage and EUT power are
monitored continuously during the entire test. Voltage distortion and current harmonic data is checked against IEC class limits for pass or fail detection. Comprehensive test reports can be generated easily.

Test limits are retained in a password protected database and can be updated if needed in the future without the need to change software. Other software changes as a result of changing IEC harmonics standard can be accomplished by simply installing new PC software. No harmonics testing software resides in system firmware which would require more costly field upgrades.

Flicker Reference Impedance
An IEC61000-4-15 compliant flicker meter is an integral part of the CTS software. The required IEC 60725 compliant reference impedance is implemented in the iX Series AC Source using programmable output impedance. Programmable impedance offers improved accuracy compared to a lumped reference impedance and the ability to support different national standards without the need to switch out lumped reference impedance hardware. A good example is testing for compliance with the Japanese harmonics and flicker standard, which requires different impedance values to be programmed as compared to the European test standard.

Optionally, a lumped impedance compliant with IEC 60725 or the Z-test specification of IEC61000-3-3 can be ordered for single or three phase iX Series based CTS systems. For three phase CTS systems, a lumped impedance option is recommended. The software can be configured to use either impedance type during flicker testing.
